Autism/Asperger's

Children with autistic spectrum disorders (ASD) encounter distinct challenges in peer interaction and play due to impairments in reciprocal social interaction, communication, imagination and sensory processing. Marion County Special Education (MCSEC) uses a team approach to serve students in the least restrictive environment. Students are served in their home districts with support from occupational, physical and speech therapists as well as teachers of the vision and hearing impaired, interrelated teachers, the SMD teacher, school psychologists and social workers, as well as the regular education teachers. This team works with the parent's of the student to develop an individualized program specific to the child's needs.
