Marion County Special Education Cooperative

Early Childhood

Early Intervention Services are provided at no cost to any family in Marion County with a child, birth through five years, who is developmentally delayed or who has a disability. The purposes of these services are to nurture the development of the infant or young child with a delay or disability, and to support the family of the child.

Infant-Toddler Services are available to children from birth to three years of age, and are provided in a family-centered manner. Families and professionals work in partnership to design a program of appropriate services and activities for the child and family. Infant-Toddler Services are provided through a collaborative network that includes the Marion County Interagency Council, the Marion County Special Education Cooperative, and the Kansas Department of Health and Environment.

Early Childhood Special Education (ECSE) services are available for children ages three  through five who have developmental delays or disabilities. ECSE services are designed individually to meet each child’s and family’s needs. The programs are usually provided through home visits, as well as attendance at a community preschool with the support of early intervention staff. Services to preschool-aged children are provided by the Marion County Special Education Cooperative.

Developmental screenings are available monthly for children from birth through five years of age. The screenings are usually held on the second Monday of each month in different locations throughout Marion County. Any parent who is concerned about their child’s growth and development is encouraged to make an appointment for screening or evaluation by calling 1-877-878-4519, ext. 117.
